Challenge: Which Is More Likely?

Posted: July 31, 2012 by Amy Hall in God is Real, Weekly Challenge

Here’s a question from Patrick for this week’s challenge:

What would be the best and quickest answer to a skeptic who would say, “What is more likely, either all the laws of nature have been broken, or someone lied”? I think this comes from David Hume and was cited by Christopher Hitchens, but I’m not sure. I’ve read John Lennox’s “Gunning For God” and he covers it quite well, but I’m looking for a quick and precise answer.

Any ideas for Patrick? Any tactical advice? Give it a shot, and we’ll hear Brett’s answer on Thursday.

Friday Fun: The Force Is Real

Posted: July 27, 2012 by Amy Hall in Just for Fun

A little Jedi religion for you this week…

Rob Sivulka of Courageous Christians United answers this week’s challenge:

For the final Mormon challenge this month, here’s an objection I’ve heard many times from missionaries:

Your image of God as being a different kind of being from us is so depressing! How can you ever hope to become like Him if you’re not literally His child?

This one may sound strange to you because there are a few Mormon ideas behind this challenge, and you may not be aware of all of them. What kind of questions would you ask your Mormon friend to draw out the differences between your beliefs and explain your answer? Why does our view of God’s nature give us joy, whereas the same view would give your Mormon friend hopelessness? The answer to this question goes to the heart of the difference between our gospels.

This week, Rob Sivulka of Courageous Christians United will join Brett to talk about the answer to this challenge. And the Ambassador’s Guide to Mormonism is now shipping, so be sure to check it out!

Friday Fun: BACON Is the New TULIP

From Ben Woodring:

I think this could be a great move for Reformed Theology, who in their right mind would reject the BACON?

I asked special guest Sandra Tanner of Utah Lighthouse Ministries to answer this week’s challenge:

The Lost Book of Abraham

Posted: July 18, 2012 by Brett Kunkle in Choosing My Religion

The Book of Abraham is found in the Pearl of Great Price, one of the four Mormon sources of scripture.  Joseph Smith claimed to translate it from an ancient Egyptian scroll.  This is a great video exposing Smith’s fraudulent claims:

Continuing with our Mormonism theme this month, here’s an objection I often hear from Mormons:

There are more than 30,000 different traditional Christian denominations, but the true church, the LDS Church, is unified, just as Christ said it would be.

How would you respond to this? Take your best shot, then Brett will have Sandra Tanner of Utah Lighthouse Ministry here to answer the question on Thursday.

In the meantime, don’t forget to check out Brett’s new booklet, The Ambassador’s Guide to Mormonism, which will start shipping very soon!

Friday Fun: Don’t Break the Internet!

Jen, the head of the IT department, wins Employee of the Month…because they don’t know she knows nothing about computers. So Moss and Roy decide they need to take Jen down a peg and “help” her with her speech. A classic scene from The IT Crowd.
