The Sounds You Hear Living in a Muslim Country…

…only this video was taken in Michigan. No, this isn’t one of those “America is becoming a Muslim country!” scare posts. It’s just to give you an idea of what the Islamic call to prayer sounds like.

I was eating lunch in my car in Hamtramck, Michigan (pretty glamorous life I lead) when I heard the sound from the loudspeakers of a nearby Mosque. I reached for a mini video camera and walked over to see (and hear) the call to prayer. Muslims are required to pray five times a day and this was the afternoon signal for nearby Muslims to come to the mosque and pray.

If you want to learn more about Islam and learn a handy technique for talking to Muslims, I recommend The Ambassador’s Guide to Islam.  It’s a short book I wrote (no, I don’t make any money of the sale) and you can download a PDF version of the whole book for less than the cost of a caramel macchiato at Starbucks. In fact, you can probably buy the book and drink a caramel macchiato for about $5. Stimulate your body and your mind.

    Opera this is not:
    The chanter (teen-age?) peters out (<~1min.), & sometimes bellows at the ends of phrases (Ak-bar!).

    If only the Islamic Township allow a competing call, inserting "not" (leise[i/ -h]), with gunshots & a screeching bomb!

    Ash hadu Allah ma leisei Raab [= god other than Allah, e.g. YaHWeH] blam blam blam;
    ash hadu ana Muḥammad-ur leiseh — tat-tat-tat — Rasu-u-ul Raab — scree-ee-EEch ka-WOOSH.

      [correction] If only it ~would~ ….

      The Incantation was adapted from Robert A. Morey’s “Faith Defenders” broadcasts’ “Islam Update[s]” & a Moslem FaceBook page “Sunnah 4Life” (Syed Alum).

      We (e.g., those in captivity) could follow up with with thought-bombs from the Prophet Muḥ.:

      In the Hadith compiled by Sahih M(oo)-slim (boom boom boom),
      Volume 3, paragraph 5113 (tat-tat-tat),
      “A non-Muslim eats in 7 intestines (scee-ee-ee-ee-…),
      While a Muslim eats in 1 intestine (-ee-EE-EECH ka-WOOSH).”

      In the Hadith compiled by Sahih al-Bukhari,
      Volume 4, number 543,
      “Allaah made Adam 60 cubits, or 30 yards or meters, or 9 stor-ies ta-a-all.”

    Hmmm… I wonder what that community would say if there were a church nearby which rang its bells 5 times a day?
