How is Religion Portrayed?

Chuck Colson has a good commentary on how religion and religious leaders are portrayed by Hollywood.

Question:  Can you think of any examples of POSITIVE portrayals that you’ve seen from Hollywood?  Answer in the comments section.

  1. Amy Hall says:

I think there’s a priest on V who’s one of the good guys, and Lost has had a few positive portrayals of Christians (the monks Desmond was with, Eko’s brother, Charlie’s priest). That’s about all I can think of.

  2. Rick Yuzzi says:

I would be happy with some neutral portrayals. I can’t think of anything positive, but can think of plenty of negative portrayals. I miss the days of Andy Griffith.

  3. Gabriel says:

I did not mind the portrayal of Eli in the Book of Eli. The premise of the movie was a little too “blind faith” for me, but Eli had a clear purpose from God, and was not shaken from it.

I agree with Amy about Lost.

  4. JT says:

Blind side had a good Christian family…. but in general i don’t think many shows put Christians in a positive light.

  5. Tee Ar says:

In Carl Sagan’s movie [“Contact” (?)], Matthew [MacConaughey’s] character, I think, offers cautious counsel to Jodie Foster’s char. regarding the Space Brethren in the Virtual Reality theatre. But he doesn’t state the obvious — you can’t trust a movie.
